What is meant by infancy?
Throughout this course infancy is described and referred to as the period of time between birth and 18 months. This is including up to the infant's corrected age of 18 months if born prematurely.
Infancy describes a period of rapid development for the baby during which foundation skills in visual, motor, language, sensory, emotional, social and cognitive (thinking) domains are developed. All of these skills contribute to the baby starting to learn and make sense of the world around them; and where caregivers learn how to read their baby’s cues and to meet their needs.
