Promoting best performance

Topic Progress:

Your occupational performance assessment of the infant together with your subjective interview with caregivers  will help you target your intervention

Start by asking the parent what their baby loves:

  • Is there something that you do that your baby loves?
  • What do you think your baby find easy to do or does very well?
  • What will get the biggest reaction from your baby?
  • Are there any toys, movements, noises that your baby loves?
  • How does your baby show you they are happy or like what you are doing?
  • What time of day do you find your baby most ready for play/interaction?

To provide opportunities to promote the child’s best performance, combine your understanding of:

  • Infant states and cues
  • Infant sensory preferences
  • Supportive positioning
  • Timing for intervention
  • Existing routines of family
  • Appropriate toy choice (see module)
