Promoting best performance
Your occupational performance assessment of the infant together with your subjective interview with caregivers will help you target your intervention
Start by asking the parent what their baby loves:
- Is there something that you do that your baby loves?
- What do you think your baby find easy to do or does very well?
- What will get the biggest reaction from your baby?
- Are there any toys, movements, noises that your baby loves?
- How does your baby show you they are happy or like what you are doing?
- What time of day do you find your baby most ready for play/interaction?
To provide opportunities to promote the child’s best performance, combine your understanding of:
- Infant states and cues
- Infant sensory preferences
- Supportive positioning
- Timing for intervention
- Existing routines of family
- Appropriate toy choice (see module)
