Goal setting ensures intervention is targeted, meaningful and relevant to the family and their child.  Your choice of a goal setting tool will primarily depend on the following:

  1. Do you set goals individually or as a team? Depending on how your team is structured, goal setting as a team can help to clarify each professions role and reinforce the unique contribution OT can have.
  2. Is the goal being set for the family? Goals should always be family centred and recognise the parent as the expert on their child.
  3. Is the goal being set for research?
