Welcome to Module 4 of the Paediatric Occupational Therapy Infants Course: Pre-contact information gathering
Before meeting and infant an family you will need to find out background information including
- medical/developmental conditions and associated risks
- handling precautions
- child safety concerns.
You will need an understanding of:
- typical development
- appropriate safe toys
- safe sleep principles.
Learning objective
This module aims to provide an understanding of what needs to be gathered as part of the pre-contact information gathering process, and knowledge around areas such as safe sleep and toy selection.
Learning outcomes
Following completion of this module the learner should be able to recall:
- how to build your picture of the infant you will be working with
- how child safety may be relevant when working with an infant and their family
- the importance of safe sleep and how it impacts on the occupational therapist’s role
- the importance of toy hygiene and infection control
- how to choose a toy for an infant.
