Welcome to Module 3 of the Paediatric Occupational Therapy Infants Course: Anticipatory care.

This module contains the essential pre-requisites you will need to know before working with infants. Knowledge and understanding of the occupational therapy role and key concepts regarding both typical and atypical development are covered. Important infant practice concepts and tools are also included.

Learning objective

This module aims to provide an understanding of

  • important theories relating to infancy (such as neuroplasticity)
  • typical and atypical development.

Learning outcomes

Following completion of this module the learner should be able to recall:

  • what is meant by attachment
  • what is meant by neuroplasticity
  • features of typical and atypical development
  • key sequences of infant development including self-regulation
  • infant cues and stress behaviours.
