Indicators for splinting in infancy
Indicators for splinting in infancy include:
- Children with congenital hand conditions (i.e. clasped thumbs, arthrogryposis, radial club hand) where there is contracture affecting or likely to affect performance.
- Infants post trauma (e.g. hand injury, brain injury) where maintenance of upper limb position is required.
- Infants with significant tonal differences impacting on performance, skin integrity or causing contracture.
