Assessing the infant
No single assessment tool will provide all the information needed and much of your assessment will rely on observation skills. A complete assessment may require a number of sessions together with information from the caregivers.
The type of assessment you choose will depend on:
- What is the clinical question, referral reason or context of the assessment?
- Who is in the team or contributing to the assessment?
- Purpose of the assessment (e.g. follow-up clinic or to support eligibility for funding)
- Your knowledge, training and experience
- What is available in the workplace.
