Toy hygiene and infection control
It is important to maintain strict infection control principles when working with infants. Infants place toys in their mouths to soothe and learn about their world. Many pre-term and medically complex infants have compromised immune systems.
Key Point
- Do not use toys made of fabric or other non-washable materials between children (single use only).
- Wash toys in mild detergent/wipe between uses.
- Use protective equipment (gloves, gowns, face shields) and adhere to infection control principles as recommended by the workplace to protect yourself and the infant.
