Collecting information
Key Point
It is important to collect a variety of information relating to the child, the family and the burn in your initial assessment. A guide to the information you need to collect is in the table below.
The child and family |
Burn injury |
Developmental skills and stage of child | Mechanism of burn (including any child safety concerns) | Occupational profile of child | Area of burn | Likely occupational impairments from burn | TBSA and depth of burn | Burn experience for child/family | Time to healing to indicate scar formation | Interventions to date |
|---|
The information you collect will contribute to the overall clinical picture of the child, anticipated treatment and the likely impact on the child’s occupational performance. This information will also be used to determine and guide your intervention and will be found in referring documentation, through discussion with the referral source and through your initial assessment with the child and family.
This information can be recorded in an initial assessment form.
