Most burns occur accidentally. There may be some cases where the details surrounding the burn will be questionable depending on the mechanism, location and the developmental stage/skills of the child (e.g. non-accidental injury, self-harm). Social work, police and child safety teams may be involved to further investigate the circumstances of the burn.
