Welcome to Module 2 of the Paediatric Occupational Therapy Burns Course: Understanding a paediatric burn.

This module will highlight the information that is required for you to understand about how, why and where paediatric burns occur. It will explore the functions of our skin, how this is impacted by a burn and how a burn is assessed and healed.

Learning objective

This module aims to provide an understanding of paediatric burns, including how they occur, are assessed and healed.

Learning outcomes

Following completion of this module the learner should be able to recall:

  • the functions of the skin
  • what a burn is
  • how a child might sustain a burn (common mechanisms of injury)
  • how to assess a paediatric burn
  • first aid and how dressings are used to heal a paediatric burn.
