Choosing a pain assessment
There are many pain assessments readily available for use (via the internet) and suitable for use with children. The following table highlights three pain assessments more commonly used within paediatric burns to assess acute and ongoing pain.
Based on the outcome of the pain assessment, select intervention to:
- advocate for the child and promote positive coping behaviours
- support child’s best performance with perceived painful experiences/procedures.
See the Resources page in this module for an overview of a variety of pain assessments.
See Module 7: Adherence to and mastery of paediatric burns interventions for resources to support the child’s occupational performance with pain experience.
