Welcome to Module 6 of the Paediatric Occupational Therapy Burns Course: Assessment.
This module will take a look at how you assess a burn, and also how you assess the child who has that burn. It will provide an understanding of how to assess burn size and depth.
Learning objective
This module aims to provide an understanding of how to assess a burn, starting with assessment of the child, and moving on to specifics like burn size and depth. This module also looks at how to choose a pain assessment and a scar assessment.
Learning outcomes
Following completion of this module the learner should have an understanding of:
- how to assess a child
- how to assess a burn (including specific assesments of size and depth)
- how to choose a pain assessment
- how to choose a scar assessment
- how to conduct a scar assessment using POSAS
- how to communicate with a child while conducting a scar assessment.
