Infection control
It is critical to maintain strict infection control when working with children who have unhealed/open skin in order to protect both yourself and the child. A burn with an infection or contamination may take longer to heal and ultimately contribute to the formation of a scar [1].

Key Point
- Adhere to workplace hand hygiene and safe work practices [2].
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) if at risk of contact with bodily fluids/unhealed skin or if child has underlying infection.
- Choose toys and therapy materials that can be easily washed/wiped [3].
- Ensure therapy materials (i.e. measuring tapes, goniometer, and garment application devices) can be washed/cleaned between use or are single-use only) [3].
