The aim of intervention

Topic Progress:
  • Acknowledge and understand the experience for the child and family.
  • Determine child’s concerns and their perception of occupational impairment secondary to scarring/burn experience.
  • What is the child’s perception of how they look/feel is stopping them doing what they want and need to be doing?
  • Education regarding options once scars mature (i.e. cosmetic camouflage, medical review re: reconstructive options).
  • Explore child’s perception of mastery and promotion of this for the child in determined environment (i.e. child feeling confident with answering questions/coping with stares when at Shopping Centre/school).
  • Refer to appropriate supports to provide 1:1 intervention as required (i.e. social work and/or local Child and Youth Mental Health Service if concerns regarding child’s underlying mental health) or parental influence of thoughts regarding the child’s appearance.
