Indicators for intervention

Topic Progress:

The following are indicators that intervention should take place:

  • Disrupted sleep as the child may wake frequently at night or have difficulty falling to sleep
  • Disrupted concentration/attention in class or at home
  • Compromised skin integrity due to scratching
  • Poor self-regulation and behaviour changes (irritability, distress)
  • Impacts to child’s ability to accurately feel/grasp, manipulate objects in play or when completing self-care tasks.
  • Withdrawal from pre-burn activities despite given medical clearance to participate.

Additionally, some children report their skin feels “weird” after removing compression garments which may contribute to a child’s reluctant to stop their compression garment when their scars have matured and the compression is no longer indicated.
