Procedural preparation strategies
When preparing for a procedure you should:
- choose intervention techniques based on knowledge of the child, including motivators and how they have coped with procedures to date. More guidance is provided in the accordion below.
- ensure optimal pharmacological pain relief (where indicated) be given to the child in a suitable time prior to intervention involving any biomechanical 'hands-on' approach i.e. splinting, touching skin for scar assessment, measuring for a compression garment.
