Facilitation strategies

A facilitator needs to plan, guide and manage the group of learners to ensure that the simulation event outcomes are met, with engagement and participation from everyone in the room.  A facilitator must be objective, take a neutral stance, step back from the content and personal frames and bias, and concentrate purely on the group needs.

Facilitators need to create a positive, safe environment where teams can openly discuss, reflect and develop improvements around an identified learning objective.

Facilitators need to consider not only environmental safety but also the participant’s psychological safety.  Creating a space that is characterised by mutual respect will help create an environment where the learners feel safe asking questions and contributing to discussions.
