Confederates
Some simulation scenarios require role players (or ‘confederates’) to enhance fidelity and 'direct' the simulation event. This may range from professional actors to members of Faculty. Whoever the choice of confederate they must have an intimate knowledge of the simulation event and its learning objectives. If medical professionals are used, they should, ideally not be familiar to the participants. Confederates known to participants can lead to role confusion and a corresponding drop in immersion. Confederates may be included in the debrief at the discretion of the lead facilitator.
