Data Owner
The responsible officer who is identified as having the authority and accountability under legislation, regulation and/or policy, for the collection and management of Data and Information as an asset.
Roles and responsibilities
- Exercises statutory rights in relation to actions including access to, and production of, a record.
- Defines the policy which governs the Data and Information of an agency.
- Approves the appointment of custodians.
- Delegates operational responsibility for Data and Information to a custodian, who applies controls that reflect the owner’s expectations and instructions such as ensuring quality, security, integrity, correctness, consistency, privacy, confidentiality, accessibility and compliance with standards.
- Approves the strategic direction for Data and Information.
- Approves the information management policies, standards and guidelines to support implementation of custodianship.
- Accountable for ongoing continuity and performance in consultation with custodians and legislative bodies.
- Participates in resolution of custodianship issues.
