Facilitation
The definition of facilitate is ‘to make easy’.
As a facilitator, you need to plan, guide and manage the group of learners to ensure that the simulation event outcomes are met, with engagement and participation from everyone in the room.
To facilitate, you must be objective.
Your role is to take a neutral stance, step back from the content and your own personal frames and bias, and concentrate purely on the group needs.
Your key responsibility as a facilitator is to create a positive, safe environment where teams can openly discuss, reflect and develop improvements around an identified learning objective.
You as a facilitator need to consider not only environmental safety but also the participant’s physiological safety. Creating a space that is characterised by mutual respect will help create an environment where the learners feel safe asking questions and contributing to discussions.
The next topic covers a range of strategies you can add to your facilitator communication tool kit to get the best out of your participants, to ensure they have a positive, rewarding learning experience.
