Audio visual
Audio visual, or AV, technology aids in the ability to capture, store and retrieve both visual and audio components that may otherwise be missed or lost in the delivery of simulation event. It enables participants and instructors to review and reflect on their performance within feedback and debriefing sessions.
There are many different forms of AV systems available. Several things should be considered when deciding what system is best going to support your training needs including the cost, physical size, ease of use, transportability and availability of parts.
Incorporating AV equipment can allow other learners to view events in a separate room in real time, or for recording of the scenario to be used during video-assisted debriefing, allowing participants not directly involved an opportunity to be included. Video-assisted debriefing also helps add perspective for the learners’, highlighting how they performed rather than how they think they performed.
AV systems can aid in the immersion. For participants directly involved within the scenario itallows the patient or manikin’s vital signs to be displayed in the scenario, as well as the debrief, and control rooms for simultaneous viewing.
It also provides a system for faculty to remotely view the scenario and offer information, such as skin colour, that participants may not be able to gather from the manikin or environment itself.
