Spontaneous breathing

  • Bilateral chest rise and fall
  • Unilateral chest rise and fall (with positive pressure ventilation only)

Manual ventilation

  • Bilateral and unilateral chest rise and fall

Sounds

  • Lung sound speakers (place stethoscope more lateral than expected)
  • Normal and abnormal breath sounds
  • Unilateral breath sounds with airway complications e.g. pneumothorax

Procedures able to be performed by learner

  • Pneumothorax decompression - left side chest wall (22 or smaller gauge needle)

Warning: Do not provide artificial respiration to the patient simulator using oxygen enriched air or flammable gases.
