Simulation events can be conducted in a purpose built Simulation Suite, a Clinical Area or a Non Clinical Area. Each site offers unique opportunities and challenges when delivering simulation training.
Simulation Suite
Simulation suites are purpose built facilities that include scenario rooms, areas for skills and drills training, debrief and lecture rooms and audio visual equipment. They also include storage and facilities for manikins, part task trainers and clinical equipment and consumables that are stored on site.
Simulation suites may employ permanent staff to support the delivery of simulation training, including simulator operators, facilitators and administrative support. They can be attached to a clinical facility or a standalone site.
Clinical area
Simulation events in a clinical area or insitu simulation allows teams to practise and to problem solve in their clinical environment. It provides opportunities to identify hazards and deficiencies in clinical systems, the environment, and any performance gaps within the team.
Non clinical area
Non clinical areas, such as a conference venue or training room, can be transformed into for simulation event through the installation of equipment and facilitators to recreate a realistic environment. Preliminary site visits are necessary in the planning phase to assess and measure the area in order to pick appropriate resources such as manikins and audio visual equipment, and determine capacity for the selected site.
