On the day of the event

Topic Progress:

Lead facilitators, Simulation Coordinators, and role players need to constantly observe and monitor the progress of participants.

  1. Actively manage time and stay on track.
  2. Anticipate the next activity and ensure preparation has been done.
  3. Ensure refreshment breaks occur.
  4. Brief participants for each learning activity.
  5. Monitor and manage any occupational health and safety issues.
  6. Facilitate learning during the activity including:
    • Assign roles for participants.
    • Ensure the simulation room is ready.
    • Assign roles within the control room.
    • Commence the simulation event.
    • Ensure simulation scripts are followed with deviations based on emerging need.
    • Close the simulation activity.
    • Get participants ready for debriefing.
    • Diffuse tension within the activity.
  7. Continue to observe participants as they change through the course, including monitoring of group dynamics.

Assessment

Assessment information should be gathered throughout the event in accordance with the event documentation. Using all tools and frameworks developed or supplied with the event is important to allow for meaningful evaluation and feedback on the success of the training.

All faculty should have a clear understanding of the assessment tools prior to delivery to ensure everyone involved is aware of the skills being assessed.
