Intraosseous Access

Welcome to Intraosseous Access.

This is a blended course, which consists of an eLearning and a face-to-face module. The eLearning is a pre-requisite for the practical 2 hour workshop which focuses on the application and assessment of the learning in a practical and simulated environment.

This eLearning module covers the theoretical components of performing intraosseous access utilising the EZ-IO® device. Local variations may occur and include, but are not limited to, practices relating to the types of equipment available and the local practice guidelines.

The module assessment is a quiz, which must be successfully passed in order to complete the module.

Important:

Before starting, ensure you have a set of headphones plugged in and have the volume set to a comfortable level.

The learning objectives and outcomes below cover the entire course, but each module (eLearning and face-to-face) addresses different components of the objectives and outcomes.

Learning objectives 

The objective of this course is to provide healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills required to safely gain intraosseous access with the EZI-IO Drill.

Learning outcomes

Following completion of this course the learner will be able to:

  • identify indications and advantages for IO insertion
  • identify common access sites for IO insertion
  • demonstrate positioning and insertion techniques for IO access using the EZ-IO® device
  • recognise complications and contraindications for IO line placement
