Operating Theatre Protocols (OTP)
Welcome to the Operating Theatre Protocols (OTP) online course.
The perioperative environment is quite different from other clinical departments. This course will give you an overview of how to prepare yourself for, and conduct yourself in, the perioperative environment.
The Australian College of Operating Nurses (ACORN) has produced a set of standards that outlines the accepted standard of professional practice in Australia. This course is based on these standards, and you are encouraged to read these for more information.
The module assessment is a quiz, which must be successfully passed in order to complete the module.
Important:
Before starting, ensure you have a set of headphones plugged in and have the volume set to a comfortable level.
Learning objectives
This course aims to:
- familiarise the learner with the perioperative environment
- describe safe functioning within the perioperative environment.
Learning outcomes
Following completion of this course the learner will be able to:
- identify compliance with ACORN standards in relation to
- scrubbing
- gloving
- gowning
- managing sterile fields
- recognise a safe perioperative environment, including identifying breaches to safe practice
- know how to adhere to the principles of theatre etiquette.
