Documentation and Clinical Handover

The final step in the procedure of PIVC insertion is documentation. Policies may vary between hospitals, so the following information is a general guide only.

It might be necessary to document the following information:

• patient consent
• date and time of insertion
• location of the insertion site/device
• type and gauge size
• number of attempts name and signature of the staff member who inserted the device.
