Medical Communication
Welcome to the Medical Communications course.
The primary aim of Medical Communication is to provide clinicians with skills in medical communication. This eLearning module covers the theoretical components of medical communication, while the face-to-face module provides participants with the opportunity to practise these skills.
Learning objectives
This course aims to:
- introduce techniques and tools to develop a systematic and logical approach when dealing with clinical stations in the AMC clinical examination
- identify the clinical and communication skills that may be assessed in the AMC clinical examination station
- introduce communication techniques to assist doctors during a doctor-patient consultation.
Learning outcomes
Following completion of this course the learner should be able to demonstrate knowledge of how to:
- introduce themselves to an examiner and patient
- take a history of a presenting complaint
- take a pain history using NILDOCARRIA
- ask for informed consent for a physical examination
- describe the physical examination techniques
- explain a management plan to a patient using a systematic approach
- use a variety of strategies to break bad news;
- demonstrate a variety of effective communication skills
- describe key elements in performing a paediatric, mental health, gynaecology, obstetrics, and sexual history.
