Contraindications
The need for emergent thoracotomy is an absolute contraindication to tube thoracostomy.
Bleeding diatheses
Patients with a susceptibility to bleeding. e.g. patients taking anticoagulant medication or in patients with a predisposition to bleeding or abnormal clotting profiles.
Previous adhesions
Previous adhesions can hamper tube placement and risk further bleeding.
Local infection
Local infection in insertion site.
