Immunisation course 2 - Vaccine management
Course description
This online course provides an overview of the importance of correct vaccine management in clinical settings from ordering to receiving vaccines, managing stock, maintaining cold chain and taking immediate actions in a cold chain breach.
You will learn about the roles and responsibilities of immunisation service providers in maintaining cold chain and about best practice risk management strategies to protect vaccines from a cold chain breach.
This course is for general education purposes only and does not lead to authorisation as an Immunisation Program Nurse.

Module 1:
The importance of vaccine management
This module covers the importance of vaccine management, the cold chain and its failure and the required processes.
Module 2:
Equipment for and monitoring of cold chain
This module covers purpose-built vaccine refrigerators, thermometers, data loggers and data audit management.
Module 3:
Vaccine storage
This module covers vaccine storage, the use of portable coolers, ice and gel packs as well as outreach immunisation clinics.
Module 4:
Cold chain breach
This module covers the cold chain breach and its protocol, power failure, the occurrence of natural disasters, recording and reporting requirements as well as patient recall.

Ordering and receiving vaccines
This module covers stock management as well as vaccine ordering and receiving.
