Airway functionality and features
The following skills and procedures can be performed
- Head tilt / chin lift
- Jaw thrust with articulated jaw
- Cricoid pressure and manipulation
If the tongue fallback feature is enabled, head tilt, chin lift and jaw thrust is required to open the airways.
- Bag-mask ventilation
Warning: Do not provide artificial respiration to the patient simulator using oxygen enriched air or flammable gases. - Laryngeal mask insertion (Size 4, but size 5 may also seal correctly)
- Orotracheal intubation (Size ID 7.5 Size ID 7.5 is recommended)
- Nasotracheal intubation
- Transtracheal intubation
Needle / Surgical Cricothyrotomy
Vocal sounds include coughing, moaning, screaming and spoken words. These can be heard from the head speaker in the manikin.
Patient simulated features may be activated
- Tongue swelling via LLEAP software
The following Patient Simulator features indicate incorrect tube placement:
- Right main stem intubation – unilateral chest rise
- Oesophageal intubation - stomach distention
The following information is automatically registered in the ALS Simulator session log
- Detection of head tilt, chin lift and jaw thrust
- CPR started; stopped
- Ventilation started; stopped
- Palpation of carotid, brachial and radial pulses
- Manual NBP performed
